There are many different ways to make money in the world of internet marketing, from affiliate marketing to blogging and everything in between. But if you’re looking to convert your traffic into cash with as little effort as possible, consider CPA marketing. CPA stands for cost per action, meaning that the advertiser will pay the publisher when someone takes an action, such as clicking on an ad or filling out an offer form. What’s nice about CPA marketing compared to other online ads like Google Adsense or affiliate links is that it’s much easier to get cash out of your traffic.

What is CPA marketing?

Short for cost-per-action, CPA marketing is when advertisers pay their affiliates to send a certain number of visitors, leads, or sales to their site. Here’s an example: If you sell sunglasses and decide to start advertising on a popular fashion site, you might get paid $1.50 every time one of your ads (called an impression) generates a click. You’ll keep getting paid as long as your ad gets clicks from that fashion site, and at some point, you can convert those impressions into actual sales. In other words, your aim is not necessarily to get people who visit your sunglasses website — but it does happen as a nice side effect.

Let’s me find out the 9 best CPA traffic sources to make your revenue.

1) Facebook

Facebook is considered by many to be one of, if not, the most potent and effective traffic source for CPA marketing. Not only does Facebook offer a dynamic and visual platform, but it also offers numerous audiences to target based on geography, age, and interests. In fact, Facebook is so powerful that it was ranked number one in a recent survey of top traffic sources by Nielsen Online. With paid advertising through Facebook’s self-service interface, you can get started right away — there’s no need to establish an account or contact customer service. And with ad bids starting at just five cents per click you can make your first test campaigns affordable. Finally, as we mentioned before, Facebook ads are extremely visual; they allow you to create eye-catching images (or videos) that capture people’s attention and invite them to learn more about what you have to offer. These kinds of ads are known as viral because they tend to attract others who want in on what you’re offering which makes them ideal for growing your list or generating affiliate sales quickly. All told, Facebook is a great place to start your CPA marketing campaign due to its high returns and easy signup process.

2) Instagram

Instagram is a powerful traffic source for CPA marketers and it’s not just because it’s such a visual platform. Instagram has an API that allows advertisers to create and display ads, which makes it extremely easy to set up campaigns targeting users based on their interests. You can pay to boost your post or get paid when you share someone else’s post with your audience. When you sell an affiliate product through Instagram and you are tagged in a photo, any sales made from that tagged photo will be attributed back to you (thanks to Instagram’s recent update). This makes it a great place to promote offers from affiliate programs like Amazon Associates and Rakuten, Linkshare since there is built-in tracking.

3) Pinterest

Pinterest is both a traffic and conversion goldmine, with so many people spending time on their accounts each day. Luckily, you can easily capitalize on that audience by following Pinterest’s policy and adding shoppable pins to your account. If you want to use Pinterest as part of your CPA marketing strategy, here are some easy steps: Create a pin-worthy image based on your advertisement or relevant post; Include a call-to-action in your description (i.e., shop now); Include high-quality images that capture customer attention; Select boards based off of related searches that complement your product. You’ll notice I didn’t mention getting viral, which does happen but isn’t something you should depend on happening organically through organic interest alone. Instead, leverage an entire network of users using targeted advertising to increase traffic to your site and sales conversion.

4) SEO

Search engine optimization is one of the most effective, if not THE most effective traffic source available. It’s like a tree that drops money directly into your pocket. Once you find a keyword, write about it in an informative and relevant way, and then optimize it by including it in your title tag and headline, writing appropriate meta descriptions and alt tags, and making sure that both mobile visitors and those on computers can access your site properly. If you optimize each piece of content properly you should begin to see traffic begin to pick up within a few weeks (although some sites take longer). The best part? You earn money when people click on ads — whether they land on your site or another site! The only downside is that SEO does take work, but fortunately, it doesn’t require much maintenance once things are set up.

5) SEM (search engine marketing)

Search engines — Google, Bing, Yahoo! — are massive traffic sources that make up roughly 30 percent of online traffic. While SEO (search engine optimization) can be extremely complicated and technical, there are tons of great resources available to help new businesses get started with their SEM campaigns. Google AdWords is a great starting point for beginners looking to set up PPC campaigns, Facebook Ads offers an easy-to-understand interface for reaching your target audience on social media, and Twitter’s ad platform provides users with an effective way to display promotional tweets. Put simply: SEM is a smart way to tap into an enormous audience that has already expressed interest in your brand or product. Depending on your business model and budget, there’s likely no better traffic source than SEM.

6) Keyword research

Your success with CPA marketing will be determined by how relevant your ad is to your audience. However, keep in mind that relevance doesn’t mean keywords alone. You can make an ad very relevant without even using a single keyword if you understand your target market and focus on benefits rather than features. Here are some tools to get you started Google AdWords Keyword Planner, UberSuggest (for smaller budgets), and SpyFu (for broader ideas). Once you have an idea of what people search for, it’s time to look at which traffic sources drive those searches. With Google’s traffic estimator tool and Facebook insights, you can see who your current customers are as well as people who might buy from you someday but aren’t there yet. For example: If I owned a vacation rental company specializing in hot air balloon rides over Napa Valley wine country, I would probably want to know where my ideal customer spends their time online.

7) Email Advertising

Email advertising is a great option if you’re looking to put your money into specific ad campaigns rather than relying on organic search results. Email advertising allows you to have much more control over who sees your ads and when they see them, which means you can target people with greater accuracy. You also have more freedom when it comes to making sure your message is getting through; email services allow you to change up images, text, and subject lines as often as you like. These factors mean it’s easier to turn an ad campaign into conversions, but it does take some advanced knowledge of how best to make use of these features. If you’re already familiar with PPC (pay-per-click) marketing platforms like AdWords, then this may be a good fit — but start small. Make sure you understand all of your options before going all-in on one type of platform or another.

8) Contextual Advertising

With contextual advertising, you pay to be positioned on search results pages related to your keywords. Search engines show your ad based on what people are searching for online at that moment. When people search Google, they find what they’re looking for by clicking on ads. The idea is simple and powerful: If people want your product or service, they can find it instantly by clicking an ad that’s relevant to their query. The catch? It costs money to appear in these positions (as much as $50 per click) and you need plenty of traffic going through Google to make it worth your while. If you aren’t ranking highly in organic searches, then contextual advertising may be a good fit.

Conclusion

There are many traffic sources available to affiliates and each one comes with its own strengths and weaknesses. Each method listed here has been used by myself (and others) at some point in my career, and I encourage you to try several different strategies when possible. Although there is no silver bullet when it comes to advertising, certain traffic sources will be better suited than others depending on your current campaigns, budget constraints, offer selection, etc. When running Facebook ads you want to make sure that you’re using a solid image or video ad that will capture your prospect’s attention immediately. To ensure that your ads perform well it’s best if you have an existing following or a large email list of warm prospects before launching into paid traffic.
